How We Install Concrete Steps

Building concrete steps is more involved than pouring a simple slab. The process requires careful measuring, strong formwork, and attention to detail at every stage. We have installed hundreds of staircases and know how to handle the challenges that come with each project.

Our installation process:

First, we excavate and prepare the base where your steps will sit. The ground must be compacted and level so the steps will not settle or crack over time. We build sturdy wooden forms that define the exact shape and dimensions of each step. The forms have to be strong enough to hold the weight of wet concrete without bulging or shifting.

Steel reinforcement goes in next. Rebar adds tensile strength that keeps the steps from cracking under stress. We tie the rebar grid together and position it correctly so it will be surrounded by concrete when we pour.

When we pour the concrete, we work from the bottom up, filling each step completely before moving to the next. This prevents air pockets and ensures solid, uniform steps. We finish each tread as we go, creating the texture or pattern you chose. After the concrete sets enough to hold its shape, we remove the forms and clean up the edges.

The concrete needs time to cure before you can use it regularly. We protect the fresh concrete from rapid drying and temperature swings.
